Tijdens de E3-persconferentie van Nintendo werd Linkle geïntroduceerd, een speelbaar karakter in Hyrule Warriors Legends. Linkle is de vrouwelijke versie van de alom bekende groen geklede Link.
Fans vroegen zich daarom af of Linkle speelbaar is in de volgende Zelda-game. Nintendo moet hen helaas teleurstellen, zo vertelde Ggme producer Eiji Aonuma in een recent interview:
Linkle was something that [game producer Yosuke] Hayashi from Koei really want to include in the game, and we thought that for a game like that where you’re constantly switching characters it might work. But for the type of Zelda that we’re making, and the fact that there is a princess Zelda and a Link, we just didn’t think that it was quite right. A few years ago, I mentioned that it might not be Link in a trailer, and it kind of caught fire and people started to think that it may be a female Link, but that’s definitely not what I had in mind.
