Afgelopen donderdag liet EA-baas Patrick Söderlund weten dat de vorige generatie consoles naar zijn mening een te lange levenscyclus heeft gekend. Microsofts Phil Harrison is het daar echter niet mee eens. Hij vindt het juist goed dat de Xbox 360 acht jaar lang mee is gegaan.
Volgens Harrison zou de Xbox One nooit zo indrukwekkend zijn geweest als hij een paar jaar eerder in de winkels had gelegen:
Eight years is actually the right time. Xbox 360 continues to grow, over 80m units and counting. And the underlying silicon chip design innovations that allow Xbox One to be what it is, didn’t reach the performance level and price point that we needed until right now.Harrison blikt dan ook tevreden terug op de vorige generatie consoles en is blij dat de Xbox One nu pas verschijnt:
So if we had come out three years ago with a new console, it would not be to the same degree of performance or price that we have now, and Xbox 360 had seven years of growth which I think is a record for a console.De volgende (inmiddels: huidige) generatie consoles is gisteren, met de launch van de PlayStation 4, officieel van start gegaan in Nederland.
