Age of Empires Online-ontwikkelaar kondigt Kickstarter-project aan

Gas Powered Games, de ontwikkelaar van onder andere Total Annihilation en het recente Age of Empires Online, heeft een nieuw project aangekondigd via Kickstarter. De nieuwe actie-RPG krijgt de naam Wildman en is grotendeels al af. Zo is op de officiële Kickstarter-pagina van het project niet alleen veel artwork te vinden, maar is er ook een trailer beschikbaar. De beschrijving luidt als volgt:

Imagine a game where you control a single hero—the “Wildman”—dropped into the middle of a War Zone. The battle starts. Your own army begins to engage the approaching enemy.

You support your troops with your own combat abilities and skills. You shape-shift into new forms that grant you new abilities. You upgrade your armies with new technology. You construct defenses. Your opponent switches tactics; you reconfigure your army to counter. You push the enemy back to their citadel, their home base. You face your opponent’s champion. You each rally your troops for support. You execute your special abilities with precision. Your opponent is devastated. You survey the battlefield: the bodies strewn on the ground, the trees burned down and smoldering, the buildings turned to rubble. You collect your rewards. You evolve.

De Amerikaanse spelontwikkelaar roept nu de hulp in van Kickstarter om het project ‘nog groter te maken’. Zo willen ze meer talen ondersteunen en de community tools aanbieden om zelf mods te ontwikkelen voor het spel, wat natuurlijk de levensduur aanzienlijk zal verlengen. Gas Powered Games is bekend met zowel het actie-genre als het rts-genre, waar Wildman een combinatie van lijkt te worden. Echter heeft het vorige week bekendgemaakt de ontwikkeling op Age of Empires Online stop te zetten.

Het doel is om 1.100.000 dollar op te halen voor vrijdag 15 februari. Omgerekend zo’n 828.687.20 euro en daar heeft het bedrijf nog 32 dagen de tijd voor. Momenteel zit het project op 23.385 dollar, zo een 17.617.14 euro. Dit bedrag stijgt met de minuut. Als Wildman de deadline gaat halen, zal het hoogstwaarschijnlijk uitkomen voor de pc via Steam.
