Vin Diesel heeft zich in een recent interview laten ontvallen dat The Fast and the Furious delen 6 en 7 in de maak zijn. Het verhaal voor een vervolg op het succesvolle vijfde deel in de serie is volgens hem simpelweg te groot voor één deel.
Dat is niet gek, als je bedenkt dat deel 6 de terugkeer betekent voor Michelle Rodriguez en Eva Mendes. Met Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson en natuurlijk Vin Diesel zelf zijn al een hoop personages aanwezig waarvoor een verhaallijn moet worden gecreëerd. Daarover zegt Diesel:
With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space. We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’.We moeten nog even wachten tot mei 2013, maar met wederom Justin Lin aan boord als regisseur (die hiervoor een nieuwe Terminator heeft laten lopen!) hebben we er alle vertrouwen in.
