Verandering van spijs doet eten: Dit is EA Sports FC – de een na beste voetbal sim

Je zou het misschien niet verwachten, maar verandering is lang niet altijd slecht. Van een ander merk pindakaas ga je niet dood, Ariel wast je kleren net zo goed schoon als Persil en Gamersnet is echt niet kut omdat het ineens opiniërend is. Zo zal EA Sports FC ook weinig last hebben van het feit dat de naam FIFA ineens van de kaft verdwijnt.

Want zeg nou zelf, het is niet de naam die de game maakt. Zelfs zonder die iconische vier-letterige merknaam weet EA wel hoe men de grasmat naar de digitale wereld moet vertalen. En het is ook niet zo dat de uitgever ineens alle contacten verloren is hè. Daar heeft Andrew Wilson wel voor gezorgd. De licentieportfolio van meer dan 19.000 spelers, 700+ teams, 100+ stadions en 30 competities waarin al tientallen jaren is geïnvesteerd, zal er nog steeds zijn. En daarbij, EA en FIFA hebben ook geen ruzie ofzo… De licentie werd gewoon een beetje te duur.

Zo zie je maar, FIFA of niet, de bal blijft rond. Maar die van FIFA zelf is toch echt wel ronder, beter en veel authentieker, aldus de FIFA zelf. Nu het lijntje met EA officieel per juli 2023 verbroken wordt, heeft de organisatie besloten om zelf met een voetbalgame te komen. Wie ‘m gaat maken? Geen idee. Maar FIFA topman Gianni Infantino zweert nu al dat het de enige authentieke, echte voetbalgame met de FIFA naam zal zijn en daardoor dus ook de beste.
