Nu Disney de Star Wars-licentie heeft opgekocht, is het van plan om elk jaar een nieuwe Star Wars-film uit te brengen. De eerste, Episode VII, verschijnt in december 2015. Rond die tijd hangt er natuurlijk een enorme Star Wars-hype in de lucht en EA hoopt daarom dat het zijn nieuwe Star Wars: Battlefront-game ongeveer tegelijkertijd kan uitbrengen.
Dit liet Patrick Söderlund van EA Studios weten tijdens een investeerdersbijeenkomst. Tegelijkertijd benadrukte hij dat de game weinig te maken heeft met de aankomende film:
What we’re building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made. And that’s just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars. Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn’t say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn’t say that we’re directly tied to it.EA liet eerder al weten dat de eerste beelden van Star Wars: Battlefront tijdens de lente van 2015 uitgebracht zullen worden. Lukt het de ontwikkelaar om de game hetzelfde jaar nog af te maken, zonder een afgeraffeld eindproduct af te leveren? Wij houden ons hart vast.
