Nintendo-goeroe Shigeru Miyamoto heeft gesteld dat het bedrijf zeer binnenkort zijn plannen zal onthullen op gebied van NFC. Miyamoto gelooft dat ‘Near Field Communication’ een techniek is waarvan elke Wii-gebruiker voordeel kan hebben:

We’re hoping that in the near future we’ll be able to show you something that will take advantage of the NFC on Wii U and people will be able to enjoy that.NFC is een contactloze communicatiemethode, waarbij twee apparaten op slechts kleine afstand verbinding met elkaar kunnen maken.
