Volgens een artikel in de Kathmandu Post is het enorm populaire PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds sinds gisteren verboden in Nepal. Het besluit komt nadat de Nepal Metropolitan Crime Division afgelopen woensdag een zogenaamde ‘Public Interest Litigation’ indiende bij de rechtbank in Kathmandu. Een dag later, gisteren, heeft de Nepal Telecommunication Authority alle internet serviceproviders opgeroepen de game te blokkeren. Afdelingshoofd Dhiraj Pratap Singh van de Metropolitan Crime Division:
“We received a number of complaints from parents, schools and school associations regarding the effect of the game on children. We also held discussions with psychiatrists before requesting the Kathmandu District Court for permission to ban the game.”
“Parents and schools had complained that the game was affecting their children’s studies and making them more aggressive. When we consulted with psychiatrists, they also said that the violence in the game can make people aggressive in real life.”
In 2016 waren Nepal’s meest populaire games Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive en FIFA 16. Het verbod volgt na een eerder kort verbod in delen van India.
