De afgelopen periode is er al de nodige informatie over de nieuwe uitbreiding van Destiny gelekt en zelfs een trailer kwam onbedoeld al naar buiten. Nu heeft Bungie zelf dan ook eindelijk Destiny: Rise of Iron onthuld en hierbij onder andere bevestigd dat de game vanaf 20 september beschikbaar zal zijn voor PlayStation 4 en Xbox One.
Daarnaast heeft de studio een inkijk gegeven in de content die Rise of Iron zal bevatten. Hiertoe behoort onder andere The Plaguelands, een geheel nieuw gebied op de aarde. Daarnaast is er ook een nieuwe ‘social space’ die uitkijkt op The Plaguelands. Met Rise of Iron verschijnt er ook een nieuwe raid; Felwinter Peak. Daarnaast brengt de uitbreiding ook een nieuwe Strike, meer quests, nieuwe wapens en gear. Ook kunnen Destiny-fans zich gaan opmaken voor nieuwe maps en een competitieve multiplayermodus, evenals een verhoging van het Light Level. Tot slot maakt het in Destiny legendarische wapen de Gjallarhorn zijn comeback. Het wapen is via een in-game quest te verkrijgen, als je Destiny: Rise of Iron pre-ordert.
