Rose Byrne terug voor X-Men: Apocalypse

Nadat we vorige week te horen kregen dat Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan en Alexandra Shipp een rol hebben bemachtigd als Jean Grey, Cyclops en Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse, kunnen we vandaag bevestigen dat Rose Byrne terug zal keren als Moira MacTaggert. Haar personage was voor het laatst te zien in X-Men: First Class.

Met de terugkeer van MacTaggert laaien direct een hoop geruchten op, waaronder een mogelijke crossover tussen het X-Men en Fantastic Four universum. ComingSoon sprak schrijver en producer Simon Kinberg over de rol van Byrne en hij zij er het volgende over:

“MacTaggert is a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them. It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one.

Apocalypse is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters. They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie.

The reboot of FanFour really needed to work in and of itself. We were doing something pretty radical with the tone of the movie. If we wanted to find a way to connect them to the X-Men, we could. There’s a lot of precedent from the comics.”

Met het oog op de setting van de film, welke zich afspeelt in de jaren “80, werd door ComingSoon ook nog de vraag gesteld of we mogelijk ook personages als Dazzler terug gaan zien in de film. Kinberg zei hierover lachend het volgende:

“Could happen. We’re certainly looking at mutants that would fit into the period.”

Hoe en wat de toekomst ons gaat brengen is dus nog maar de vraag en zoals Kinberg zei bieden de comics van vroeger voldoende mogelijkheden. Voorlopig moeten de Fantastic Four eerst nog nieuw leven in worden geblazen met de nieuwe film, welke in augustus verschijnt. Pas na X-Men: Apocalypse zullen we wat horen over een mogelijke crossover.

X-Men: Apocalypse is vanaf 19 mei 2016 te zien in de Nederlandse bioscoop.
