De launch van Halo: The Master Chief Collection is niet bepaald van een leien dakje gegaan en vooral de multiplayer had te kampen met veel problemen. Om spelers te compenseren voor deze ongemakken, belooft Microsoft alle spelers van de Master Chief Collection een gratis exemplaar van de Halo 3: ODST remaster.
Deze geremasterde versie van Halo 3: ODST draait op 1080p met een resolutie van 60 frames per seconde. Iedereen die Halo: The Master Chief Collection heeft gespeeld vóór 19 december en tegelijkertijd verbonden was met Xbox LIVE, krijgt de remaster bij de release gratis. 343 Industries-studiobaas Bonnie Ross vertelt:

We’ve been working around the clock deploying weekly content updates and numerous server-side adjustments that have shown good results and we’re encouraged by the feedback we’re hearing from you. This has been a humbling experience and highlighted how we as a studio can – and need – to do better for Xbox fans around the world. We are so grateful to our fans who have stood by our side and we appreciate all of your patience as we worked through these issues.Naast de remaster van Halo 3: ODST ontvangen spelers tevens een maand gratis Xbox LIVE Gold, een vernieuwde versie van de Relic multiplayer-map uit Halo 2 en een exclusieve in-game naamplaat en avatar.
Volgens 343 Industries waren noch de Halo 3: ODST remaster, noch de Relic map oorspronkelijk onderdeel van de ontwikkelingsplannen en zijn beide ontstaan naar aanleiding van feedback van spelers. 343 Industries benadrukt dat de populaire Firefight-modus vooralsnog niet zal terugkeren in de remaster en verontschuldigt zich nogmaals voor de problemen:
