Slecht nieuws voor de vier Nederlanders die nog regelmatig een bezoekje brengen aan PlayStation Home: jullie virtuele alter-ego ziet binnenkort zijn dood tegemoet. Sony heeft namelijk bekendgemaakt dat zijn virtuele ontmoetingsplek, na een legendarisch succesvolle carrière van ruim zes jaar, in maart zijn deuren zal sluiten.
Op 31 maart 2015 valt definitief het doek voor Home, maar dat weerhoudt Sony er niet van om nog tot en met 12 november nieuwe content uit te blijven brengen:
Due to a shifting landscape, PlayStation Home will cease publishing new content on the 12th of November, 2014. Gamers in Europe will be able to download content until the 3rd of December, 2014. As a token of our tremendous gratitude to the community, we will also be releasing a series of free content prior to the platforms closure on the 31st of March, 2015.Sony bedankt alle
PlayStation Home has been serving the PS3 community since December 2008. During that time, tens of millions of users around the world have grown the social gaming platform into a thriving community of creative and enthusiastic gamers. We would like to thank all of our fans for their support of the PlayStation Home platform over the years.Heb je momenteel voor honderd euro aan virtuele meubeltjes staan, die straks in rook opgaan? Dan zul je volgens Sony helaas niet op een vergoeding kunnen rekenen.
Sony gaf tevens aan geen plannen te hebben voor een PlayStation 4-versie van Home. Wij zien deze new-gen console voorlopig dus nog niet van de grond komen.
