Grand Theft Auto 5 mag dan wat installatieproblemen kennen, de game is onverminderd populair. De voorspelde “grootste lancering van de huidige generatie” komt vrijwel zeker uit, want volgens uitgever Take-Two heeft GTA 5 in slechts één dag tijd al 800 miljoen dollar opgeleverd. Deze voorspelling bevat zowel de verkopen van Noord-Amerika als Europa. Redelijk grote afzetmarkten als Japan en Brazilië komen daar nog bij, aangezien de game daar nog moet verschijnen.
Hiermee heeft men ook het financiële gamerecord in zicht. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is vooralsnog koploper. De game bracht na 15 dagen maar liefst 1 miljard dollar op, maar GTA 5 zou dit bedrag wellicht al in amper twee dagen tijd kunnen bereiken! Het wachten is op de officiële cijfers.
