Assassin’s Creed is inmiddels een jaarlijkse franchise en aangezien deze grootse games niet binnen 365 dagen ontwikkeld kunnen worden, is het logisch dat er twee spellen van deze franchise tegelijkertijd in productie zijn. Ubisoft-baas Yves Guillemot heeft echter in een interview laten weten dat er momenteel niet twee, maar drie Assassin’s Creed-games in de maak zijn!
Volgens Guillemot is het belangrijk dat de ontwikkelaars genoeg tijd krijgen, zodat de games niet allemaal op elkaar gaan lijken:
We are making sure the teams who are creating the different iterations have enough time – two years, three years, so that they can take risk and they can change the concept enough so that it can be appealing and fresh.Guillemot vindt het belangrijk dat de Assassin’s Creed-franchise constant blijft innoveren:
Really, what we see is that we can have the capacity to regularly come with innovation. That is, for me, the formula: if you can really change the game on a regular basis and bring in innovation your fans want a product very regularly. Our job is to make sure the teams have enough power, enough energy and enough time to take the necessary steps to create a high quality game.Verondersteld wordt dat er momenteel, naast Black Flag, ook een vijfde en zesde Assassins-game in de maak zijn. Het is echter ook mogelijk dat Ubisoft momenteel werkt aan een losstaande handheld-titel. De toekomst zal het leren.
