De officiele synopsis van von Trier’s nieuwe project Nymphomaniac is bekend gemaakt. Schrijver/regisseur Lars von Trier kennen we ook van zijn laatste succes Melancholia met Kirsten Dunst in de hoofdrol. Dunst won in Cannes voor haar acteerprestatie in de film. Geruchten gaan dat Melancholia ook gewonnen zou hebben in de categorie beste film in Cannes, maar door von Trier’s onhandige nazi uitspraken in de pers werd hij verbannen van het evenement.
Desondanks was de film een groot succes in Cannes en onder recensenten. De vraag was dan ook met wat voor nieuw project von Trier zou komen en nu is bekend geworden dat dit Nymphomanic is.
“Nymphomaniac” is the wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe.On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman, finds Joe beaten up in an alleyway. He brings her home to his flat where he tends to her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.
Joe zal gespeeld worden door actrice Charlotte Gainsbourg en acteur Stellan Skarsgard zal gestalte geven aan de charmante single Seligman.
