EA ziet graag content van andere uitgevers op Origin

Origin, Electronic Arts’ eigen digitale gamewinkel, is vooralsnog enkel het platform voor EA-titels. Dat hoeft echter niet zo te blijven als het aan EA’s senior vice president van global online gaming, David DeMartini, ligt. Sterker nog, DeMartini wil andere uitgevers verwelkomen op EA’s eigen platform.

A lot of other publishers are looking at viable channels for making their content available, and we would welcome them on Origin and hope that they would see the value of what we’re trying to bring with the Origin client in association with their games as well.

We would absolutely welcome that kind of evolution. We have a large team of people here that’s continuing to expand the Origin feature set. The social feature set, the cross-platform capability… when that’s extended into some of our key intellectual properties in the next 3-6 months, people are going to see the value in the game experience of that integration between Origin and the games.

DeMartini toont in ieder geval dat Origin meer is dan enkel het legaal downloaden van games: er wordt blijkbaar ook gedacht aan sociale features en eventuele cross-platform mogelijkheden. Als andere uitgevers hun games aan zouden bieden via Origin zou het goed kunnen dat het nieuwe platform van EA een gewaagde concurrent van Steam of Direct2Drive wordt.
